Anne Houghton - Painter & Printmaker
Anne Houghton studied fine art as a mature student at the University of Hertfordshire and graduated in 2007. She makes collages, prints and watercolours but is primarily a painter living in a rural Hertfordshire village. Her work is mainly based on an emotional response to an experience which could be disturbing or delightful. The intense feeling generated fires her imagination and this is what she aims to portray. It is a means of expressing her delight in the enormity of nature whilst submerging the darker side of life.
At first it is the colour which lures the viewer. Texture, too,is important which is created using various techniques including acrylics laid on with a palette knife. To increase the texture the canvas is sometimes prepared with a texture medium. You will discover that the written word is often incorporated into her work as are vessels. The recurring motif of ceramic pots and jugs have been researched on her travels in Italy, Greece and Syria.
